Recycling & Sustainability
Vape and Go is committed to responsible retailing. That includes helping customers dispose of vaping products safely and correctly.
Vape products can contain plastic, metal, glass, electronic parts and lithium-ion batteries. These materials should not be placed in general household waste. Devices with built-in batteries, loose vape batteries and electronic vape hardware should be treated as electrical waste.
Please recycle your vape products responsibly and follow your local council’s recycling guidance.
Why vape recycling matters
Vape devices and accessories can contain materials that need careful disposal. This is especially important for products with lithium-ion batteries, as batteries can cause fires if they are crushed, damaged or placed in the wrong waste stream.
Never place vape devices, built-in batteries or loose vape batteries in household waste or standard recycling bins.
Use approved recycling points, battery collection bins or local household recycling centres where available.
How to recycle e-liquid bottles
Many e-liquid bottles and cardboard boxes can be recycled, but local recycling rules vary. Please check your local council’s guidance before placing plastic bottles, caps or nibs in household recycling.
Before recycling an e-liquid bottle:
- make sure the bottle is empty;
- replace the cap where accepted by your local recycling rules;
- rinse the bottle if only a small residue remains and your local council accepts this type of plastic;
- recycle the cardboard box with paper and card waste where accepted.
Do not pour large amounts of unused e-liquid down the sink. If you are unsure how to dispose of unused e-liquid, contact your local council or recycling centre for guidance.
How to recycle vape kits and hardware
Vape kits can include electronic parts, glass, metal, plastic and battery components. These parts should be separated where it is safe to do so.
For reusable vape kits:
- Remove the tank or pod from the device.
- Remove any external batteries if your device uses removable batteries.
- Empty and clean removable tanks where possible.
- Recycle glass, plastic and cardboard parts according to your local council’s rules.
- Take the main device body to a household electrical waste recycling point.
- Take loose batteries to a designated battery recycling bin.
Do not attempt to open sealed devices or remove built-in batteries yourself. If a device has a built-in battery, treat the whole device as electrical waste and take it to an approved recycling point.
How to recycle disposable vapes and closed pod devices
Single-use vapes can no longer be sold or supplied in the UK, but customers may still have older devices at home that need safe disposal.
Disposable vapes and closed pod devices are sealed products with built-in batteries. You should never try to break open, dismantle, wash or remove the battery from these devices. This can create a fire risk, chemical exposure risk or injury risk.
Dispose of the whole device at an approved vape recycling point, electrical waste recycling point, supermarket recycling point where available, or your local household recycling centre.
Do not put disposable vapes or closed pod devices in household waste or standard recycling bins.
How to recycle prefilled pods and refill pods
Prefilled pods, refill pods and cartridges may contain plastic, metal and small amounts of e-liquid residue. They do not always contain batteries, so disposal rules can vary.
Do not place used pods in household recycling unless your local council or recycling provider confirms they are accepted.
Where possible, place used pods or cartridges in a dedicated vape recycling point. If you are unsure, contact your local council or recycling centre for advice.
How to recycle vape batteries
Lithium-ion vape batteries must be handled carefully. Damaged or incorrectly disposed batteries can cause fires and may release harmful materials.
For removable vape batteries:
- remove the battery from the device only if it is designed to be removed;
- keep batteries away from heat, water and metal objects;
- cover exposed battery terminals with tape where advised by your recycling provider;
- take batteries to a designated battery recycling bin at a supermarket, electrical retailer or recycling centre.
Never place loose vape batteries in household waste or standard recycling bins.
If a battery looks swollen, leaking, hot, damaged or unsafe, do not use it. Contact your local recycling centre for advice on safe disposal.
How to recycle packaging
Most paper and cardboard packaging can be recycled through household recycling where accepted by your local council.
Before recycling packaging:
- remove any plastic inserts where possible;
- flatten cardboard boxes;
- check local rules for mixed-material packaging;
- place paper instructions and cardboard boxes in paper/card recycling.
How to reduce vape waste
You can reduce vape waste by choosing products that suit your usage and can be maintained responsibly.
Practical steps include:
- choosing rechargeable vape kits where suitable;
- replacing pods, coils or cartridges instead of replacing the whole device;
- recycling empty e-liquid bottles and packaging correctly;
- using dedicated battery and electrical waste recycling points;
- checking product compatibility before buying replacement pods or coils;
- storing devices and batteries safely to help prevent damage.
Vape products are intended for adults aged 18 and over. They are not risk-free and should only be used by adults.
